Welcome to the PowerSchool Admin Resources page. Please browse through the available documents to find information you may find helpful. The page will be divided into sections based on topics and grade levels. Use the contact form to send any suggestions you may have or to request specific information to be added.

Below are links to two documents - one is the official Pearson PowerSchool User Guide and the other is the MISD/UCS guide used in the winter 2010-2011 training sesssions. Both can be a great resource and serve as a refresher for those new to PowerSchool or getting back to it after a long break.

PowerTeacher Training Guide

Below is a link to the PowerTeacher gradebook training document used at the August 2011 training sessions and also used by the teacher trainers at their home schools. It is a great tutorial for both those new to PowerTeacher and those looking for a refresher. The document is geared toward the elementary teachers, but most of it applies to users accross all grade levels.

Acceptable Use of Technology / Internet Safety

It covers the use of local- and wide-area networks, the Internet -including web pages, computers and related hardware and all other technology hardware and software used for instruction and management. Utica Community Schools (UCS) may occasionally require new registration and account information from users to continue the service.

Can I access my mailbox from my Smartphone or Tablet?

Follow the steps below to configure your mobile device to access your upgraded mailbox.  Note that you can also use a web browser on a tablet (e.g. Safari on the iPad) to access your account at mail.uticak12.org without permanently downloading mail or calendar information to your device.  This may be preferred in some situations. 

Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad

1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars

2. Remove any existing Exchange accounts pointing to your old server.  When finished, proceed to step 4.

3. Tap Add account.

4. Tap Microsoft Exchange.

5. For the user name and email address fields, enter your email address (Leave the domain field blank)

6. For the password fields, enter your UCS password.

7. Enter a description (if desired) and tap Next.

8. Wait for the Autodiscover process.

9. If the Autodiscover process fails, replace the server name field with m.outlook.com and tap Next/Proceed to complete the setup. 

10. Choose the type of information you want to synchronize between your account and your device, and then touch Save. By default, Mail, Contacts, and Calendar information are synchronized.

Android phones or tablets

1. From the home screen, tap Settings.

2. Tap Accounts and Sync.

3. Remove any existing Exchange / Corporate Sync accounts pointing to your old server. 

4. Depending on your version of the Android operating system, tap Corporate, Exchange, or Exchange ActiveSync to set up a new account.

5. For the user name and email address fields, enter your email address.

6. For the password fields, enter your AD password. (If there is a domain field, leave it blank)

7. If there is a checkbox similar to Accept all certificates, Accept all certificates in chain, or Accept all SSL certificates, select it. 

8. Tap Next/Proceed and wait for the Autodiscover process.

9. If the Autodiscover process fails, replace the server name field with m.outlook.com and tap Next/Proceed to complete the setup

Outlook Web App lets you sign in to your email account from almost any device that can connect to the Internet, including laptop and desktop computers, smartphones, and tablets.

For the best experience with Outlook Web App, use one of the operating system and browser combinations labeled “Best”. Outlook Web App is supported by other operating system and web browser combinations, but not all features will be available. Some browsers will support only the light version of Outlook Web App.

  • Best: All features will work.
  • Good: Most features will work.
  • Light: The browser will display the light version of Outlook Web App.

 Note    In previous versions, Outlook Web App had built-in spell checking. In the latest release, Outlook Web App relies on the web browser for spell checking, which Internet Explorer prior to version 10 doesn’t provide.

Distance Learning for Everyone

What is Distance Learning? The MISD website has a wealth of resources that provide the avenues to find a video conference that fits UCS standards and your classroom. Here is a discription from their website that tells what distance learning is: "Curriculum and Professional Development are enhanced and extended through on-line courses, virtual field trips to zoos, museums and science centers, collaborative events linking students from around the county to around the state to around the world, and special events linking our students to authors and specialists. In short, we bring a world of resources to our students each and every day."

A Teacher's Guide to Video Conferencing

Research

Research and choose a program to address specific standards from your curriculum. Browse available programs at BCISD/TWICE Video Conferencing Field trip Database or SBC Videoconferencing for Learning Directory. Review the program description, grade level, program length, preparation needed, fees, and recommendations from others. Keep in mind that some providers may be able to modify their program to fit your specific needs.

Reserve

Ensure your building cart is available and reserve it for your date and time. Notify your principal of your intent. Contact Todd Daniels at the board office if you need monetary support. Schedule your broadcast, keeping the following in mind:

1) Register several months in advance.
2) Provide 3 possible dates.
3) Check for time zone differences.
4) Provide class data such as number of students, grade, and any special situations.
5) Provide your information including email and technical contact information.
6) Ask for support materials and IP address/phone number for broadcast day.

Prepare

Engage students in pre-activities prior to the event. Gather any materials necessary for the video conference. Plan the arrangement of the room so that all students will be able to view and participate in the conference. Learners need to know what is expected of them during the video conference. Review behavior expectations, and remind them that the connection is live. Students need to know to speak loudly and clearly when communicating with the presenter and not to talk in unison.

Engage

During the event the teacher acts as the facilitator and makes every effort to involve all students in the classroom. To eliminate accidental noise interruptions turn the audio mute button on when listening to the presentation. Have fun and enjoy the conference.

Follow-Up

Provide opportunities for the students to reflect on the conference, through projects and post-activities. Have students consider the value of the conference. Did they learn a lot? Would they recommend it to others? Post your review to the database site for others future reference.

Blackboard is now at version 9

The most current version of Blackboard is 9 - information below is retained strictly for reference. Please refer to the MISD Blackboard section of their web site for current information.

Blackboard is moving to version 8

The MISD will start transitioning MOST/Blackboard from Version 7 to Version 8 over the next 6 months. During that time, both systems will be operational. You will have a choice as to which one you would like to use. If you do not currently use the grade book feature we encourage you to move to Version 8 at the start of the new year. However, if you are more comfortable staying on Version 7 for the remainder of the 2008-2009 school year you may and we encourage you to consider moving to Version 8 by the end of March.

Below are some key items that EVERYONE will need to be aware of:

  • The current MOST/BB login page will change to http://most.misd.net. Links to both versions along with updated information will be located there.
  • On December 29th at 9am MOST/BB will be taken off-line and a snap-shot of all courses will be taken. Version 7 will be back online on December 30th. Version 8 will be online soon thereafter the snapshot is completed.
  • To find out exactly when Version 8 will be online go to http://most.misd.net.
  • All users IDs and courses will be available on both systems. To access Version 8 all you will need to do is login using your existing ID and password.
  • Any data (docs, student IDs, etc.) entered AFTER December 30th on either Version 7 or 8 WILL ONLY be available on that specific version.
  • If you choose to stay on Version 7 and want your course moved to Version 8, you will find a form located at http://www.misd.net/bb
  1. When making a request we will need at least two weeks notice.
  2. Migrations of requested courses will only occur on weekends as time permits and only for those requests received at least two weeks prior to your requested date.
  3. Information such as documents, tests etc. uploaded to Version 7 during that two week period MAY NOT BE BROUGHT over to Version 8. (It will depend on when a snap-shot of the course is taken.)
  • Version 7 will go off-line after the school year ends in June.
  • Instructors using the grade book in Version 7 need to know that when we migrate the data it may not bring over your grade book correctly especially if you are using things like weighted grades. (Because of this issue we are taking these extraordinary steps to run parallel systems until the end of the school year to ensure the transition will work for you.)
  • If you use the grade book in Version 7 and want to move to 8 as soon as possible, it would be best if you download your grades before your request or make a hard copy for your reference.

    Remember that you may stay on Version 7 until the end of the year. Those who want to move to Version 8 may do so by just logging in with your current ID and password at the Version 8 address once it comes online. To find out when go to: http://most.misd.net.
